During Lilibet’s christening in California, it was reported that Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Princess Diana’s elder sisters, were in attendance.
Princess Diana’s Sisters Allegedly Attended Lilibet’s Christening
According to a report by the DailyMail in the UK, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex hosted a small ceremony and after-party at their Montecito mansion, which was attended by approximately 20-30 guests.
The report stressed that two of Prince Harry’s aunts from his mother’s side were present at the event. Royal expert Christopher Andersen had this to say: “I think there is a genuine, heartfelt desire on the part of the Spencers to maintain the late Princess of Wales’ remarkable legacy — to make sure she’s not forgotten as we approach the coronation.
“They are also filling the void left by the royal family.” According to a People magazine source, the couple invited King Charles III, Queen Consort Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton, but they did not attend the event.
This then raised serious question marks over whether or not Harry and Meghan will attend Charles’ Coronation on Saturday, 6th May 2023.
As of now, an invitation has been sent, but the couple have yet to confirm if they will attend. And given that the ceremony is on the same day as Archie’s birthday, the couple could decide to skip it.
Throughout his life, Harry has maintained a strong relationship with his aunts, who happen to be younger than him. When Diana passed away at the age of 36 due to the car accident, Fellowes and McCordquodale, accompanied King Charles to Paris to bring her body back to the UK.
Even though the sisters Diana do not often talk openly about her, they have demonstrated their backing for her two sons during significant occasions. Shannon Felton Spence, another royal expert, confirmed as much: “Harry is very close with his aunts.
“In a break from tradition, the photos released from Harry and Megan’s wedding, and Archie’s christening, included both of Diana’s sisters. It’s lovely.”
The social media response, however, was far from positive. This was on the grounds that the event came across as though the Sussexes were looking to exploit their connection to Diana as a way to generate more positive press.
One person wrote: “I remember reports that said Diana’s sisters weren’t impressed by Meghan. I think this is another example of #theharkles stretching the truth.”
