In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle acquired a nine-bedroom abode in Montecito for $14.65 million after opting to no longer fulfill their royal duties and by the looks of it, they got a great price.
Harry And Meghan Got A $10 Million Discount Off Their Montecito Home-‘They Actually Got A Pretty Good Deal,’ Says Forbes Journalist Carlie Porterfield
According to Forbes journalist Carlie Porterfield, the couple received a $10 million discount. This was then followed up by claims that their lucrative deals with Spotify and Netflix helped to pay off a loan worth $9.5 million that was used to finance the purchase.
In her comments, Carlie said: “They spent $14.7million on their home in Montecito but they actually got a pretty good deal on it. The former owner purchased it for about $10million more and was trying to sell it to obviously make a profit.
“He wasn’t able to so he took about a $10million cut…they actually got a pretty good deal.” If those comments are taken to be true, then they are very significant for the following reasons.
First of all, Harry mentioned to Oprah Winfrey that he had been completely disconnected from the royal household financially and that he signed these deals in order to provide himself with protection.
And yet, Carlie’s comments would suggest it was motivated by Harry’s longing for a house. Secondly, this also demonstrates that should Harry and Meghan decide to leave, then they could make a handsome profit out of the property.
The fans on social media had no sympathy towards the struggles Harry may have gone through in acquiring the property. This was on the basis that he had decided to leave the firm himself and as such had to deal with the consequences that followed.
One person wrote: “Why should a 38 year-old man expect to be paid by his family for doing nothing? He left them, end of any responsibility they had for him. If he can’t make a living, too bad.”
