Lars Sullivan, born Dylan Miley, emerged in WWE with significant promise. With an imposing physique and intense presence, Sullivan was positioned as a future main event player. However, his career trajectory in WWE was tumultuous, marked by controversies, injuries, and personal challenges. This article delves into Sullivan’s journey in WWE, exploring the factors that led to his rise and eventual departure.

    Early Career and NXT Success

Lars Sullivan’s professional wrestling career began in WWE’s developmental territory, NXT, in 2013. Initially performing at live events, he gradually built a reputation for his powerful and aggressive in-ring style. By 2017, he made a significant impact on NXT television, characterized by dominant victories and a monstrous persona.

Sullivan’s push in NXT culminated in high-profile matches, including a notable feud with Kassius Ohno and a standout performance at NXT TakeOver: Chicago II in a match for the NXT Championship against Aleister Black. Despite losing to Black, Sullivan’s performance solidified him as a formidable force in NXT.

Main Roster Debut and Early Push

Lars Sullivan’s main roster debut was highly anticipated. Promos for his arrival aired in late 2018, creating substantial buzz. Sullivan officially debuted on WWE’s main roster in April 2019, attacking popular superstars like Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio, and The Hardy Boyz, establishing himself as a dominant heel.

    Controversies and Backlash

Despite a promising start, Sullivan’s career was marred by controversies. Shortly after his debut, offensive comments made by Sullivan on an online bodybuilding forum between 2007 and 2013 resurfaced. These comments included racist, homophobic, and sexist remarks, sparking outrage among fans and within the wrestling community.

WWE addressed the issue by fining Sullivan $100,000 and mandating sensitivity training. Although he publicly apologized, the damage to his reputation was significant, and fan sentiment turned largely negative.

    Injuries and Hiatus

In June 2019, Sullivan sustained a knee injury that required surgery, sidelining him for several months. This injury halted his momentum, and his return was further delayed by additional personal issues. During this hiatus, more controversial details about Sullivan’s past emerged, including his involvement in an adult film, which led to further public scrutiny and embarrassment.

    Return and Departure

Sullivan made a brief return to WWE television in October 2020, once again attacking various superstars to reestablish his monstrous persona. However, his return was short-lived. By early 2021, reports surfaced of Sullivan struggling with anxiety issues, which affected his ability to perform. In January 2021, WWE quietly released Lars Sullivan, effectively ending his wrestling career with the company.

    Personal Challenges and Future Prospects

Sullivan has been open about his struggles with anxiety and mental health issues, which significantly impacted his WWE career. Since his departure from WWE, he has largely stayed out of the public eye, focusing on his personal well-being. While there’s always potential for a return to professional wrestling, it seems Sullivan is prioritizing his mental health and recovery over a comeback in the ring.

Lars Sullivan’s WWE career is a cautionary tale of how personal controversies, injuries, and mental health challenges can derail even the most promising careers. Despite his physical prowess and initial success, Sullivan’s past actions and personal struggles overshadowed his in-ring achievements. His story highlights the importance of personal conduct and mental health in the high-pressure world of professional wrestling.
